The 6 killer apps of prosperity

The 6 killer apps of prosperity

The new bionics that let us run, climb and dance

The new bionics that let us run, climb and dance

This is the kind of talks that makes you feel we can do anything! Dr. Herr started his research with optimist mindset and attitude that not only helped him overcoming his torment and pain, but also motivated him to create a technology that changed the perspective about impairment and disability. The bionic research introduced in this talk is life changing for millions of people who lost their limbs and can greatly improve the life quality for those with limited mobility or nervous system disorders like Parkinson’s disease. Furthermore, the technology can be tweaked and used as exoskeleton for emergency responders to facilitate their work. As you can imagine, The bionic research is multidisciplinary and covers wide subjects from studying human movements, robotics to mechanical design. This makes the technology expensive and not affordable for the masses. It was great to hear that the founders are currently working with social health programs to provide access to this technology. Finally, this talk is an amazing display of what human determination can do and there is not better way to conclude than what Dr. Herr said:”A human being can never be broken. Our built environment, our technologies, are broken and disabled”.

A critical look at geoengineering against climate change

davidKeith

A critical look at geoengineering against climate change

This is a very interesting topic with opinion varies greatly from people saying it is a global warming to others arguing it is a global cooling and a third party denying it all together. In this talk, Dr. Keith discussed the issue and laid out an interesting solution in a “too fast too furious” style, then presented a model that proves his approach. Throughout the talk I had a bad feeling as “The road to hell is paved with good intentions” and couldn’t stop wondering; what if the model proved to be wrong and couldn’t predict all the risks? on the political side, can any nation do this? if not, who is responsible for controlling the global temperature? and how to be sure this cannot be used to threaten other nations? In science we have things that we should do, things we can do, and finally things we shouldn’t touch and I think this topic belongs to that category.

What will future jobs look like?

What will future jobs look like?

Let me start with what Dr. McAfee quoted in his talk: Voltiare once said “Work saves a man from three great evils: boredom, vice and need.” Being employed and maintaining employment is one of the basic building blocks for a prosperous and healthy society. With the new technological advancements and new forms of smart automation our everyday jobs are in decline. This will put a huge burden on our governments, which I believe, has to respond in two steps: First, start by welfare programs (minimum wage or job guarantee) that will bridge the gap between current and future required job skills. Then, improve the educational system to push more people into the creative fields of art and science which no automation can ever take!

Why we do what we do

TonyRobbins

Why we do what we do

Tony Robbins is such an extraordinary speaker full of energy and insight, He has this great ability to reach out to audience and lift their spirit. In this talk Mr. Robbins help us understand what drives us to do the things we wanna do and why we wanna do it. He started his talk discussing the six human needs: Certainty, Uncertainty, Significance, Connection, Growth and Contribute to something bigger. Throughout the discussion he focused on the emotional side as a powerful motivator.

This is certainly a big discussion in such a short time that made it rough and not easy to follow nevertheless Mr. Robbins did a great job in pin pointing to the main ideas.
